Saint Barthélemy, Gustaf III Airport short airstrip is at the base of a gentle slope ending directly on the beach. The arrival descent is extremely steep over the hilltop traffic circle; departing planes fly right over the heads of sunbathers. Ranked the 3rd most extreme airport in the world by The History Channel. More

October 01, 2015 - Canadian Xpress® October 2015 Challenge - Dangerous Airports IV This month, your mission is to depart from Stornoway (EGPO) and fly to Barra Airport (EGPR) which is a short-runway airport (or STOLport) situated in the wide shallow bay of Traigh Mhor at the north tip of the island of Barra in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. The airport is unique, being the only one in the world where scheduled flights use a beach as the runway. The beach is set out with three runways in a triangle, marked by permanent wooden poles at each end. At high tide these runways are under water so flight times vary with the tide. Emergency flights occasionally operate at night from the airport with vehicle lights used to illuminate the runway and reflective strips laid on to the beach. More

September 05, 2015 - Canadian Xpress® September 2015 Fly-In - Happy 19th MS Flight Simulator 95 for Windows In the fall of 1996, Microsoft released Flight Simulator for Windows 95 (FS6), the first windows based version of Microsoft Flight Simulator. Although this was more or less just a port from the DOS version (FS5.1) released just a year earlier, it did feature vastly improved frame-rates, better haze as well as additional aircraft, including the Extra 300 aerobatic aircraft. It also featured more 3-D detailing. This could be noticed in many places such as Manhattan and Meigs Field. This version was the first to also include major airports outside the US and Europe, which put Canadian airports (11 of them) in the simulator for the first time.

This month we are going to pay tribute to that lost flight simulator, which helped get it all started some 19 years ago. Departing from Toronto (CYYZ), it would be fitting to visit the default airport of Flight Simulator for Windows 95 Meigs Field (KCGX). However sadly due to political reasons at the time using the tragic events of September 11, 2001 to back up his actions, on the night of Sunday March 30, 2003, Mayor Daley ordered city crews to destroy the runway in the middle of the night, bulldozing large X-shaped gouges into the runway surface. More

September 01, 2015 - Canadian Xpress® September 2015 Challenge - Dangerous Airports III This month, we move from high mountains to Fjords full of icebergs. Departing from St. John's (CYYT), your mission is to fly to one of the most dangerous airports in the north, Narsarsuaq Airport (BGBW) in Greenland with either the Canadian Xpress® Boeing C-17 or Lockheed C-130 which is available to all pilots regardless of rank, but only for the challenge.

The approach is through a fjord, so it's necessary to make 90 degree turn to line up with the runway while in the valley. It's similar to flying down a city street with high rises on both sides with severe turbulence at all times except on the brightest of days; downdrafts are everywhere. There's the risk of icebergs drifting into the departure/arrival path. More

August 06, 2015 - Canadian Xpress® August 2015 Fly-In - 6th Anniversary Back in early 2009 a close group friends and pilots found themselves without a virtual airline to call home. Canadian Xpress® would like to invite all pilots to join us on Saturday, August 29th at 10h00edt (14h00z) and 21h00edt (Sunday 01h00z) for our August 2015 fly-in where we fly from our training base in Moncton (CYQM) to our operational headquarters in Montreal (CYUL). More

This month?s challenge take us from Telluride (KTEX) to Aspen (KASE). Pilots must be certified to land in Aspen, because the approach requires a swift descent through the mountains to a high altitude landing, so study your approach charts. More

July 08, 2015 - Canadian Xpress® Monthly Challenge Calculator v2.0 Determining the winner in the Canadian Xpress® Monthly Challenges is based on a pilots ability to plan & fly a specific aircraft in a given scenerio. Parameters including fuel & flight planning, block to block time, touchdown rate, etc. are all taken into consideration in calculating a score. A perfect flight would give you a score of zero. Therefore, the lower your score, the better.

The Canadian Xpress® Monthly Challenge Calculator will calculate your score on any given flight by either importing your FSAcars log into the application or by manually entering the required parameters and it will calculate your score so that you can compare your flight with other pilots.

In addition, the Canadian Xpress® Monthly Challenge Calculator is used for validating flight logs for our various tours. More

July 04, 2015 - Canadian Xpress® July 2015 Fly-In - Mighty Planes - B737-200 Anyone who is a fan of all things that fly, has probably watched The Discovery's Channels series called Mighty Planes. The 5th episode of their second season which aired in the middle of June was on the Boeing 737-200 operated by Nolinor Aviation based out of Montreal Mirabel airport.

The show covered the operation of the 737-200 as it traveled from Mirabel to Val-D'Or, here it loaded up cargo for the giant mining company Agnico Eagle for transport to their Meadowbank mine in Nunavut.

For this month's fly-in we wanted to recreate that route, however its 3+ hour flight that puts it outside our target flight time for these events. Furthermore, Meadowbank is a private airport for the mine, it's not modeled within the FS world. More

April 11, 2015 - Canadian Xpress® April 2015 Fly-In - Telluride Telluride Regional Airport at an elevation of 9,078 feet above sea level, was the highest commercial airport in North America with scheduled passenger flights, until Great Lakes Airlines ended service in 2014.

The runway is on a plateau and still dips slightly in the center, although the dip was more pronounced prior to a renovation in 2009. It can be a challenging but beautiful approach for pilots. During winter months, about 20% of the scheduled commuter airline flights end up diverting to other airports because of abruptly adverse landing conditions. When flying to the Telluride Regional Airport, pilots must be aware of unique issues impacting the airfield including high terrain exceeding 14,000 feet, as well as the airport's location on a plateau with a thousand-foot (300 m) drop to the San Miguel River below. February 09, 2015 - Canadian Xpress® February 2015 Fly-In - Paro, Bhutan Over the last 5½ years, Canadian Xpress® has visited some of the most amazing airports around the world. From time to time, we are going to hold a Throwback event of some of our earlier flights, so those pilots who are new to the flight simulator world can enjoy our past adventures. However these events aren?t simply just a recycle version of old. New flight plans, updated charts and scenery have been added where possible, to show off new add-ons and changes to the airports.

This month we are doing a Throwback event to November of 2012 and revisiting Paro which is the only international airport in Bhutan. The airport is located 4 miles from Paro in a deep valley on the bank of the river Paro Chhu.
